French door grilles in Dundee: what will it cost?
As a guide, French door grilles in Dundee cost £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, supplied and fitted. The exact figure depends on size, type, finish and locking, and is confirmed in writing after the free survey.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
Choices you can make
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Matches white, black or wood-effect frames
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
- Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
- Each side opens independently

Getting the right French door grille for your building
Door swing
Inward-opening doors need the grille set back far enough to clear the leaves.
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
What the rules say in Scotland
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Scotland, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
Bedroom and escape windows
In Scotland, escape from homes is covered by the Building Standards technical handbooks (section 2, fire). Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

French door grilles in Dundee: questions
Can you survey in Dundee and nearby towns?
Yes. Surveys in Dundee, Cupar, St Andrews and elsewhere in Dundee and Angus are booked around installer availability.
Will the grille match my doors?
We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.
Do French door grilles need a floor track?
Usually a low-profile one, which keeps the grille rigid and is easy to step over.
My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?
Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.
