What do security grille repairs involve?
Security grille repairs put a stiff, jammed, bent or broken grille back into proper working order. Typical faults are worn bottom wheels, bent or dirty tracks, broken scissor links or rivets, a grille that has dropped out of line, or a lock that no longer engages.
A grille that is hard to close does not get closed, which defeats the point of having one. Most faults are mechanical and can be fixed on site: cleaning and realigning tracks, replacing worn runners and pivots, straightening bent sections, and adjusting or replacing the lock.
Where a grille has been attacked or badly damaged, we assess whether repair is sensible or whether replacement is better value. Repair visits are charged; the visit price and any parts are confirmed before work goes ahead.
How much do security grille repairs cost?
Repair visits start from £174 including VAT (£145 plus VAT), and most repairs cost £174 to £594 including VAT (£145 to £495 plus VAT) including parts. The visit price is confirmed before we attend and parts are agreed before work goes ahead. See all grille prices.

What to decide before you order
Repair or replace
If the frame is sound, repair is usually best. Heavily corroded or badly bent grilles are often better replaced.
Parts
Some older grilles need parts that are no longer made; equivalents can often be adapted.
Make it safe first
After a break-in attempt, the first priority is making the opening secure.
Prevent repeats
Many faults come from dirt in the tracks; regular servicing helps.
Rules across the UK
The rules on planning, listed buildings and fire safety differ between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. These are the points most relevant to security grille repairs; local pages show the version for your nation.
Electric roller grilles
Electric grilles need a suitable supply wired to BS 7671. In homes, some electrical work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. Powered grilles should have working safety devices and regular maintenance.
Grilles across exits in business premises
In workplaces and other non-domestic premises, including the common parts of blocks of flats and HMOs, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes the responsible person keep escape routes and emergency exits available and easy to open while people are present. A grille across an exit should be unlocked and parked open whenever the building is occupied, and covered in the fire risk assessment.
