What does security grille installation involve?
Security grille installation covers the free survey, measuring, ordering and fitting of your grilles, then a handover where we show you how to operate and look after them. You contract with us for the whole job, and the work is carried out by installers working under our contract.
Most of what makes a grille work well happens before it is fitted: an accurate survey of the reveal, a check of what the fixings will go into, a decision on which way it folds, and a lock position that clears handles and restrictors.
On the day, the installer protects floors and furniture, fixes the tracks or frame, hangs and adjusts the grille, tests every lock, tidies up and walks you through using it. We can also fit grilles you already own, after checking they are suitable.
How much does security grille installation cost?
Fitting grilles you already own costs £234 to £594 including VAT (£195 to £495 plus VAT) per opening, after we have checked the product. For new grilles, fitting is included in the supplied-and-fitted price, confirmed in writing after a free survey. See all grille prices.
Fit-only price for grilles you already own. New grilles are priced supplied and fitted.

What to decide before you order
What the wall is made of
Solid brick and block take direct fixings; stud, render and thin reveals may need a subframe.
Access
Tell us about parking, stairs, alarms and working times when you book.
Existing grilles
Old grilles can be removed and taken away as part of the job.
Timing
Shops and offices can usually book early or late slots, subject to the installer's schedule.
Rules across the UK
The rules on planning, listed buildings and fire safety differ between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. These are the points most relevant to security grille installation; local pages show the version for your nation.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

A surveyor measures every opening, checks the walls and fixings, and talks through type, colour and locks.
Fixed price in writing
You get a written quote with the grille schedule, the price and the lead time. Nothing is ordered until you accept.
Made, fitted and handed over
Grilles are made to measure, fitted by installers working under our contract with you, tested and explained.
Security grille installation: questions
Is the survey free?
Yes, for new grille installations. Repair and servicing visits are charged.
Who carries out the work?
Work is carried out by installers working under our contract with you, so you deal with us from survey to handover.
Can you fit a grille I bought online?
Often, yes. We check the product, measurements and fixings first, then quote a fit-only price, usually from £195 plus VAT (£234 inc VAT) per opening.
How long does installation take?
Most single grilles take one to two hours. A whole house or shopfront may take a day.
Will fitting make a mess?
Drilling makes some dust. Installers use dust sheets and a vacuum and leave the area tidy.
When do I pay?
Payment terms are set out in your written quote before any work starts.
