Bespoke security grilles in Canterbury

How much should I budget for bespoke security grilles in Canterbury?

Most bespoke security grilles in Canterbury fall within £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

What to think about first

Consents

Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent; bespoke designs are often how consent is won.

Budget

Decorative work costs more than plain bars. We can price plain and decorative options side by side.

External grilles and planning

External grilles and shutters on shops and other commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the local council because they change the building's appearance. Many councils' shopfront guides favour internal, open-lattice grilles, particularly in conservation areas.

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

Bespoke security grilles in Canterbury: questions

Which areas near Canterbury do you cover?

We can arrange work in Canterbury and in nearby Whitstable (6 miles), Herne Bay (7 miles) and Faversham (9 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.

Can bespoke grilles still be retractable?

Yes, within limits. Retractable grilles need straight tracks, so curved or arched parts are usually fixed.

How long do bespoke grilles take?

Longer than standard grilles because each is drawn and fabricated individually. The lead time is confirmed with the quote.
