How much should I budget for patio and bifold door grilles in Cardiff?
Most patio and bifold door grilles in Cardiff fall within £1,074 to £2,994 including VAT (£895 to £2,495 plus VAT) per set of doors for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.
A patio door grille is a wide retractable grille fitted inside sliding patio or bifold doors. Closed, it protects a large glazed opening that is often out of sight at the back of the house; open, it folds into slim stacks so the view and access are unaffected.
What goes into a patio door grille
- Locks operable from inside
- Matched to aluminium, uPVC or timber frames
- Stacks positioned to clear handles and curtains
- Works with sliding, lift-and-slide and bifold doors
- Optional extra locking points for wide spans
- Multi-leaf grilles for openings up to several metres

What to think about first
Track
A low-profile track keeps the threshold easy to walk over. Recessed tracks need a little floor work.
Usage
If you open the doors every day, ask for a lighter-action grille with smooth runners.
Consents and safety: Wales
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings in Wales need listed building consent for works affecting their character, decided by the local planning authority with Cadw's involvement where required. Conservation areas bring extra scrutiny of external changes. Check with the council before ordering.
Bedroom and escape windows
Wales has its own Approved Documents under the Building Regulations. Approved Document B for Wales sets out escape window provisions for dwellings broadly in line with England's, including minimum opening sizes. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

Patio and bifold door grilles in Cardiff: questions
Do you cover Penarth as well as Cardiff?
Yes. As well as Cardiff, we can arrange surveys in nearby Penarth, Caerphilly and Barry, and elsewhere in South Glamorgan.
How long does fitting take?
A typical set of patio doors takes half a day once the grille is made.
Will a grille get in the way of my bifold doors?
No. We plan the stack so the bifold leaves and the grille fold to positions that do not clash.
Can the grille be fitted outside the patio doors?
It can, but inside is usual because the grille is protected and the outside of the house stays the same.
