Fitting in Pitlochry and nearby
Pitlochry is about 24 miles from Perth, the main centre for Perth and Kinross. We can survey and fit across the PH16 district and in nearby places such as Blairgowrie and Crieff.
Perth and Kinross mixes Perth's Georgian and Victorian centre with stone-built Highland Perthshire towns such as Pitlochry and Crieff.
This type of grille suits:
- French doors to gardens
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- Ground-floor flats
- Dining rooms and kitchens
Questions we will ask at the survey
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
Door swing
Inward-opening doors need the grille set back far enough to clear the leaves.
Planning and safety in Scotland
Bedroom and escape windows
In Scotland, escape from homes is covered by the Building Standards technical handbooks (section 2, fire). Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Scotland, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Can French door grilles open one side only?
