How much should I budget for bespoke security grilles in Shropshire?
Budget £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for bespoke security grilles in Shropshire, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.
A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

- Design drawing agreed before fabrication
- Retractable, fixed, removable or hinged in bespoke shapes
- Hidden or discreet fixings
- Slim sections for period and listed buildings

What to think about first
Design approval
We agree a drawing showing bar layout, sections and finish before anything is made.
Budget
Decorative work costs more than plain bars. We can price plain and decorative options side by side.
Consents and safety: England
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.
External grilles and planning
External grilles and shutters on shops and other commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the local council because they change the building's appearance. Many councils' shopfront guides favour internal, open-lattice grilles, particularly in conservation areas.
How it works

Bespoke security grilles in Shropshire: questions
Which towns in Shropshire do you cover?
We can arrange work anywhere in Shropshire, including Telford, Shrewsbury, Wellington, Bridgnorth and Ludlow, and in other towns across the area.
Can you copy an existing grille design?
We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.
Can you make a grille for an arched window?
Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.
Can bespoke grilles still be retractable?
Yes, within limits. Retractable grilles need straight tracks, so curved or arched parts are usually fixed.
