Bespoke security grilles in Bicester

How much should I budget for bespoke security grilles in Bicester?

Budget £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for bespoke security grilles in Bicester, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

What to think about first

Consents

Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent; bespoke designs are often how consent is won.

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Consents and safety: England

England

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

Bespoke security grilles in Bicester: questions

Do you cover Oxford as well as Bicester?

Yes. As well as Bicester, we can arrange surveys in nearby Oxford, Banbury and Aylesbury, and elsewhere in Oxfordshire.

Can you copy an existing grille design?

We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.

How long do bespoke grilles take?

Longer than standard grilles because each is drawn and fabricated individually. The lead time is confirmed with the quote.
