Bespoke security grilles in Livingston

Bespoke security grilles in Livingston: what will it cost?

Most bespoke security grilles in Livingston fall within £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

What the rules say in Scotland

Scotland

Bedroom and escape windows

In Scotland, escape from homes is covered by the Building Standards technical handbooks (section 2, fire). Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

External grilles and planning

External grilles and shutters on commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the council under the Scottish planning system. Councils' shopfront guidance commonly prefers internal, open-mesh security, particularly in conservation areas and town centres.

Bespoke security grilles in Livingston: questions

Do you cover Bathgate as well as Livingston?

Yes. As well as Livingston, we can arrange surveys in nearby Bathgate, Grangemouth and Dunfermline, and elsewhere in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.

How long do bespoke grilles take?

Longer than standard grilles because each is drawn and fabricated individually. The lead time is confirmed with the quote.
