Bespoke security grilles in Edinburgh

Bespoke security grilles in Edinburgh: what will it cost?

Most bespoke security grilles in Edinburgh fall within £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Budget

Decorative work costs more than plain bars. We can price plain and decorative options side by side.

What the rules say in Scotland

Scotland

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Listed buildings in Scotland need listed building consent for works affecting their character, decided by the council, with Historic Environment Scotland consulted on some cases. Conservation areas bring extra scrutiny of external changes. Check with the council before ordering.

Bedroom and escape windows

In Scotland, escape from homes is covered by the Building Standards technical handbooks (section 2, fire). Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

Bespoke security grilles in Edinburgh: questions

Can you survey in Edinburgh and nearby towns?

Yes. Surveys in Edinburgh, Musselburgh, Dalkeith and elsewhere in Edinburgh and the Lothians are booked around installer availability.

Can bespoke grilles still be retractable?

Yes, within limits. Retractable grilles need straight tracks, so curved or arched parts are usually fixed.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.
