Bespoke security grilles in Elgin

How much do bespoke security grilles cost in Elgin?

Most bespoke security grilles in Elgin fall within £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

Fitting in Elgin and nearby

Elgin is about 57 miles from Aberdeen, the main centre for Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. We can survey and fit across the IV30 district and in nearby places such as Nairn and Inverness.

North-east Scotland is known for granite tenements and houses in Aberdeen, fishing towns along the coast and stone-built market towns inland.

Typical places for this kind of grille include:

Oversized commercial openings
Arched and Gothic windows
Listed and period buildings
Churches and community halls

Things to decide before you order

Consents

Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent; bespoke designs are often how consent is won.

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Rules that apply in Scotland

Scotland

External grilles and planning

External grilles and shutters on commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the council under the Scottish planning system. Councils' shopfront guidance commonly prefers internal, open-mesh security, particularly in conservation areas and town centres.

Bedroom and escape windows

In Scotland, escape from homes is covered by the Building Standards technical handbooks (section 2, fire). Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

Bespoke security grilles in Elgin: questions

Can you survey in Elgin and nearby towns?

Yes. Surveys in Elgin, Nairn, Inverness and elsewhere in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray are booked around installer availability.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.

Can you copy an existing grille design?

We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.
