Removable security grilles in Armagh

Removable security grilles in Armagh: what will it cost?

As a guide, removable security grilles in Armagh cost £354 to £894 including VAT (£295 to £745 plus VAT) per window, supplied and fitted. The exact figure depends on size, type, finish and locking, and is confirmed in writing after the free survey.

A removable security grille is a rigid steel panel that sits in locked brackets fixed to the window reveal. Unlocked, it lifts out entirely, leaving the window clear for cleaning, views or escape; locked in, it is as strong as a fixed grille.

Panel weight

Steel panels are heavy. We size and split them so one person can lift each panel safely.

Locking

Choose keyed pins for everyday use, or padlock hasps if you prefer to use your own padlocks.

What the rules say in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland

Grilles inside the glass

A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Northern Ireland, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Bedroom and escape windows

Fire safety in new building work in Northern Ireland is covered by the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 and Technical Booklet E. Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

Removable security grilles in Armagh: questions

Do you cover Portadown as well as Armagh?

Yes. As well as Armagh, we can arrange surveys in nearby Portadown, Dungannon and Craigavon, and elsewhere in County Armagh.

What is the difference between removable and retractable grilles?

A retractable grille folds to the side but stays in place; a removable grille comes out completely. Retractable suits daily use, removable suits occasional use.

Are removable grilles suitable for listed buildings?

Often, because the only permanent fixings are small brackets. Listed building consent may still be needed, so check with your council first.

Can removable grilles be locked from outside?

They are designed to be locked and removed from inside only, so nobody outside can lift them out.
