How much should I budget for patio and bifold door grilles in Penzance?
Budget £1,074 to £2,994 including VAT (£895 to £2,495 plus VAT) per set of doors for patio and bifold door grilles in Penzance, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.
A patio door grille is a wide retractable grille fitted inside sliding patio or bifold doors. Closed, it protects a large glazed opening that is often out of sight at the back of the house; open, it folds into slim stacks so the view and access are unaffected.
Choices you can make
- Locks operable from inside
- Stacks positioned to clear handles and curtains
- Works with sliding, lift-and-slide and bifold doors
- Optional extra locking points for wide spans
- Matched to aluminium, uPVC or timber frames
- Multi-leaf grilles for openings up to several metres

What to think about first
Where it parks
Bifold doors stack their own leaves to one side; the grille stack should not fight them.
Usage
If you open the doors every day, ask for a lighter-action grille with smooth runners.
Consents and safety: England
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Patio and bifold door grilles in Penzance: questions
Do you cover Camborne as well as Penzance?
Yes. As well as Penzance, we can arrange surveys in nearby Camborne, Redruth and Falmouth, and elsewhere in Cornwall.
Will a grille get in the way of my bifold doors?
No. We plan the stack so the bifold leaves and the grille fold to positions that do not clash.
Do patio grilles block the view?
When open, only a slim stack at each side. When closed, the lattice is open enough to see the garden clearly.
How long does fitting take?
A typical set of patio doors takes half a day once the grille is made.
