French door grilles in Hove: what will it cost?

Our guide range for French door grilles in Hove is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.

What you can specify

  • Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
  • Set back to clear inward-opening doors
  • Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
  • Small stacks at each side of the doors
  • Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
  • Each side opens independently

Fitting in Hove and nearby

We arrange surveys and fitting in Hove and across the BN3 postcode district, as well as in nearby Brighton (1 mile) and Portslade (2 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

East Sussex is known for Regency and Victorian terraces in Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings, many in conservation areas, alongside Wealden villages.

What the rules say in England

England

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.

French door grilles in Hove: questions

Do you cover Brighton as well as Hove?

Yes. As well as Hove, we can arrange surveys in nearby Brighton, Portslade and Burgess Hill, and elsewhere in East Sussex.

Can French door grilles open one side only?

Yes. Each leaf runs independently, so you can open one side and leave the other closed.

Do French door grilles need a floor track?

Usually a low-profile one, which keeps the grille rigid and is easy to step over.

Will the grille match my doors?

We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.
