Bi-folding security gates in Cardiff: what will it cost?
As a guide, bi-folding security gates in Cardiff cost £954 to £2,634 including VAT (£795 to £2,195 plus VAT) per opening, supplied and fitted. The exact figure depends on size, type, finish and locking, and is confirmed in writing after the free survey.
A bi-folding security gate is made of hinged leaves of vertical bars that fold against each other as they slide along a top track. It covers wide openings like a retractable grille but folds into fewer, flatter panels with no scissor lattice.

Getting the right bi-fold gate for your building
Folded stack size
Leaves stack flatter than a lattice but each leaf has a fixed width, so the stack is planned with the room layout.
Floor guide
A bottom guide keeps the leaves aligned. Recessed guides keep the floor flush.
What the rules say in Wales
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Wales, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
Grilles across exits in business premises
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies in Wales, including to the common parts of blocks of flats and HMOs. The responsible person must keep escape routes and exits available and easy to open while people are present, so a grille across an exit should be open whenever the premises are occupied.
