Bespoke security grilles in Melksham

How much do bespoke security grilles cost in Melksham?

Most bespoke security grilles in Melksham fall within £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

Fitting in Melksham and nearby

Melksham is about 20 miles from Swindon, the main centre for Wiltshire. We can survey and fit across the SN12 district and in nearby places such as Trowbridge and Chippenham.

Wiltshire mixes Swindon's Victorian railway terraces and modern estates with stone-built market towns such as Salisbury, Chippenham and Devizes.

Typical places for this kind of grille include:

Arched and Gothic windows
Feature windows and atriums
Listed and period buildings
Oversized commercial openings

Things to decide before you order

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Consents

Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent; bespoke designs are often how consent is won.

Rules that apply in England

England

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

Bespoke security grilles in Melksham: questions

Do you cover Trowbridge as well as Melksham?

Yes. As well as Melksham, we can arrange surveys in nearby Trowbridge, Chippenham and Devizes, and elsewhere in Wiltshire.

Can bespoke grilles still be retractable?

Yes, within limits. Retractable grilles need straight tracks, so curved or arched parts are usually fixed.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.

Can you copy an existing grille design?

We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.
