Bespoke security grilles in Watford

How much do bespoke security grilles cost in Watford?

Budget £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for bespoke security grilles in Watford, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

Choices you can make

Decorative bar patterns and scroll work
Very large or multi-section screens
Arched, curved, raked and odd-shaped grilles
Retractable, fixed, removable or hinged in bespoke shapes
Any RAL colour, galvanised or both
Design drawing agreed before fabrication

Fitting in Watford and nearby

We arrange surveys and fitting across Watford and the WD17 postcode district, and in nearby Bushey (2 miles), Rickmansworth (4 miles) and Borehamwood.

Hertfordshire mixes the garden cities of Letchworth and Welwyn, post-war new towns such as Stevenage, and historic centres like St Albans.

Typical places for this kind of grille include:

Listed and period buildings
Churches and community halls
Oversized commercial openings
Arched and Gothic windows

Things to decide before you order

Design approval

We agree a drawing showing bar layout, sections and finish before anything is made.

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Rules that apply in England

England

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

External grilles and planning

External grilles and shutters on shops and other commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the local council because they change the building's appearance. Many councils' shopfront guides favour internal, open-lattice grilles, particularly in conservation areas.

Bespoke security grilles in Watford: questions

Do you cover Bushey as well as Watford?

Yes. As well as Watford, we can arrange surveys in nearby Bushey, Rickmansworth and Borehamwood, and elsewhere in Hertfordshire.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.

How long do bespoke grilles take?

Longer than standard grilles because each is drawn and fabricated individually. The lead time is confirmed with the quote.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.
