Bespoke security grilles in Catford

What is the price of bespoke security grilles in Catford?

Most bespoke security grilles in Catford fall within £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

Questions we will ask at the survey

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Consents

Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent; bespoke designs are often how consent is won.

Planning and safety in England

England

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

External grilles and planning

External grilles and shutters on shops and other commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the local council because they change the building's appearance. Many councils' shopfront guides favour internal, open-lattice grilles, particularly in conservation areas.

Bespoke security grilles in Catford: questions

Do you cover Blackheath as well as Catford?

Yes. As well as Catford, we can arrange surveys in nearby Blackheath, Greenwich and Beckenham, and elsewhere in Greater London.

Can you copy an existing grille design?

We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.

How long do bespoke grilles take?

Longer than standard grilles because each is drawn and fabricated individually. The lead time is confirmed with the quote.
