Bespoke security grilles in Whitehaven

What is the price of bespoke security grilles in Whitehaven?

As a guide, bespoke security grilles in Whitehaven cost £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening, supplied and fitted. The exact figure depends on size, type, finish and locking, and is confirmed in writing after the free survey.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

Questions we will ask at the survey

Consents

Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent; bespoke designs are often how consent is won.

Lead time

Bespoke grilles take longer than standard ones because each is drawn and made individually.

Planning and safety in England

England

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

External grilles and planning

External grilles and shutters on shops and other commercial buildings normally need planning permission from the local council because they change the building's appearance. Many councils' shopfront guides favour internal, open-lattice grilles, particularly in conservation areas.

Bespoke security grilles in Whitehaven: questions

Which areas near Whitehaven do you cover?

We can arrange work in Whitehaven and in nearby Workington (7 miles), Barrow-in-Furness (34 miles) and Penrith (34 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

How long do bespoke grilles take?

Longer than standard grilles because each is drawn and fabricated individually. The lead time is confirmed with the quote.

Can bespoke grilles still be retractable?

Yes, within limits. Retractable grilles need straight tracks, so curved or arched parts are usually fixed.

Can you copy an existing grille design?

We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.
