Bespoke security grilles in Newtownabbey

Bespoke security grilles in Newtownabbey: what will it cost?

As a guide, bespoke security grilles in Newtownabbey cost £474 to £3,594 including VAT (£395 to £2,995 plus VAT) per opening, supplied and fitted. The exact figure depends on size, type, finish and locking, and is confirmed in writing after the free survey.

A bespoke security grille is designed and fabricated for one particular opening, such as an arched window, a curved bay, a very large screen or a period building where a standard grille would look wrong. It is measured on site, drawn up and made to suit.

What the rules say in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland

Bedroom and escape windows

Fire safety in new building work in Northern Ireland is covered by the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 and Technical Booklet E. Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

External grilles and planning

Planning in Northern Ireland is handled by the eleven councils. External grilles and shutters on commercial buildings normally need planning permission, and councils generally prefer internal, see-through security in town centres.

Bespoke security grilles in Newtownabbey: questions

Do you cover Holywood as well as Newtownabbey?

Yes. As well as Newtownabbey, we can arrange surveys in nearby Holywood, Belfast and Carrickfergus, and elsewhere in County Antrim.

Can you make a grille for an arched window?

Yes. Fixed and removable grilles can follow the arch exactly, and retractable grilles can be fitted below the springing line with a fixed arched panel above.

Can you copy an existing grille design?

We can make a grille in a similar style for a matching window. We do not copy other firms' registered designs.

Can a grille be designed for a listed building?

Yes. Slim sections, matched colours and minimal fixings help, but listed building consent is still needed for works that affect the building's character.
