Visits in Cirencester and nearby
Cirencester is about 15 miles from Gloucester, the main centre for Gloucestershire. We can arrange visits across the GL7 district and in nearby places such as Stroud and Cheltenham.
Gloucestershire mixes Cotswold stone towns and villages, Regency terraces in Cheltenham, and the commercial and retail centres of Gloucester and Yate.
This work suits:
- Roller grilles that will not open or close
- Retractable grilles that stick or jump the track
- Grilles with lost or broken keys
- Grilles damaged in an attempted break-in
Before the visit
Make it safe first
After a break-in attempt, the first priority is making the opening secure.
Repair or replace
If the frame is sound, repair is usually best. Heavily corroded or badly bent grilles are often better replaced.
Planning and safety in England
Electric roller grilles
Electric grilles need a suitable supply wired to BS 7671. In homes, some electrical work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. Powered grilles should have working safety devices and regular maintenance.
Grilles across exits in business premises
In workplaces and other non-domestic premises, including the common parts of blocks of flats and HMOs, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes the responsible person keep escape routes and emergency exits available and easy to open while people are present. A grille across an exit should be unlocked and parked open whenever the building is occupied, and covered in the fire risk assessment.
