Roller security grilles in Holywood

Roller security grilles in Holywood: what will it cost?

Our guide range for roller security grilles in Holywood is £1,495 to £4,995 plus VAT (£1,794 to £5,994 inc VAT) per opening, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

A roller security grille is a curtain of linked aluminium or steel tubes that coils into a box above the opening. Lowered, it gives an open-mesh barrier you can see through; raised, it leaves the full width clear with nothing parked at the sides.

Getting the right roller grille for your building

Manual or electric

Small grilles work well by hand. Anything large, high or used several times a day is easier and safer with a motor.

Inside or outside

Inside a shopping centre or behind glazing the grille is protected. External roller grilles normally need planning permission.

What the rules say in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Listed buildings in Northern Ireland need listed building consent for works affecting their character, with the council deciding and the Department for Communities' Historic Environment Division advising. Conservation areas bring extra scrutiny of external changes.

External grilles and planning

Planning in Northern Ireland is handled by the eleven councils. External grilles and shutters on commercial buildings normally need planning permission, and councils generally prefer internal, see-through security in town centres.

Roller security grilles in Holywood: questions

Which areas near Holywood do you cover?

We can arrange work in Holywood and in nearby Newtownabbey (3 miles), Belfast (5 miles) and Carrickfergus (6 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

Is a roller grille the same as a roller shutter?

No. A shutter uses solid or perforated slats; a grille uses an open mesh of tubes and links, so you can see through it and air can pass.

What happens to an electric grille in a power cut?

Powered grilles have a manual override, usually a crank or chain, so they can be raised or lowered without power.

Do roller grilles need planning permission?

Internal roller grilles generally do not. External ones normally do, and councils often prefer open-mesh grilles to solid shutters where something external is allowed.
