How much do patio and bifold door grilles cost in Gateshead?
As a guide, patio and bifold door grilles in Gateshead cost £1,074 to £2,994 including VAT (£895 to £2,495 plus VAT) per set of doors, supplied and fitted. The exact figure depends on size, type, finish and locking, and is confirmed in writing after the free survey.
A patio door grille is a wide retractable grille fitted inside sliding patio or bifold doors. Closed, it protects a large glazed opening that is often out of sight at the back of the house; open, it folds into slim stacks so the view and access are unaffected.

- Multi-leaf grilles for openings up to several metres
- Stacks positioned to clear handles and curtains
- Optional extra locking points for wide spans

Anthracite grilles sit quietly against grey aluminium frames.
Track
A low-profile track keeps the threshold easy to walk over. Recessed tracks need a little floor work.
Rules that apply in England
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Patio and bifold door grilles in Gateshead: questions
Do you cover Newcastle upon Tyne as well as Gateshead?
Yes. As well as Gateshead, we can arrange surveys in nearby Newcastle upon Tyne, Felling and Wallsend, and elsewhere in Tyne and Wear.
How long does fitting take?
A typical set of patio doors takes half a day once the grille is made.
Will a grille get in the way of my bifold doors?
No. We plan the stack so the bifold leaves and the grille fold to positions that do not clash.
Do patio grilles block the view?
When open, only a slim stack at each side. When closed, the lattice is open enough to see the garden clearly.
