What is the price of French door grilles in Port Talbot?
Our guide range for French door grilles in Port Talbot is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
What goes into a French door grille
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Set back to clear inward-opening doors
- Matches white, black or wood-effect frames
- Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house

Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
One side or both
A centre-meeting pair lets you open one side for everyday use.
Planning and safety in Wales
Bedroom and escape windows
Wales has its own Approved Documents under the Building Regulations. Approved Document B for Wales sets out escape window provisions for dwellings broadly in line with England's, including minimum opening sizes. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Wales, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
