French door grilles in Suffolk: what will it cost?

Our guide range for French door grilles in Suffolk is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.

Choices you can make

  • Each side opens independently
  • Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
  • Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
  • Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
  • Set back to clear inward-opening doors
  • Small stacks at each side of the doors

What the rules say in England

England

Grilles inside the glass

A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Bedroom and escape windows

Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.

French door grilles in Suffolk: questions

Which towns in Suffolk do you cover?

We can arrange work anywhere in Suffolk, including Ipswich, Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and Felixstowe, and in other towns across the area.

Will the grille match my doors?

We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.

My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?

Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.

Do French door grilles need a floor track?

Usually a low-profile one, which keeps the grille rigid and is easy to step over.
