French door grilles in Kelso: what will it cost?
Most French door grilles in Kelso fall within £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.

The Borders are known for stone-built former mill towns such as Galashiels and Hawick and historic towns like Kelso and Peebles.
Common openings for French door grilles:
- Period homes with timber French doors
- French doors to gardens
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- Ground-floor flats
Getting the right French door grille for your building
Curtains and blinds
Stack positions are planned around curtain tracks and returns.
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
What the rules say in Scotland
Bedroom and escape windows
In Scotland, escape from homes is covered by the Building Standards technical handbooks (section 2, fire). Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings in Scotland need listed building consent for works affecting their character, decided by the council, with Historic Environment Scotland consulted on some cases. Conservation areas bring extra scrutiny of external changes. Check with the council before ordering.

French door grilles in Kelso: questions
Do you cover Galashiels as well as Kelso?
Yes. As well as Kelso, we can arrange surveys in nearby Galashiels, Hawick and Haddington, and elsewhere in Scottish Borders.
My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?
Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.
Will the grille match my doors?
We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.
Do French door grilles need a floor track?
Usually a low-profile one, which keeps the grille rigid and is easy to step over.
