How much do French door grilles cost in Southport?
Most French door grilles in Southport fall within £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before anything is ordered.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
What you can specify
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
- Matches white, black or wood-effect frames
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Set back to clear inward-opening doors
- Each side opens independently
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
Fitting in Southport and nearby
We arrange surveys and fitting in Southport and across the PR8 postcode district, as well as in nearby Formby (7 miles) and Lytham St Annes (7 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
Merseyside has Liverpool's Georgian quarter and Victorian terraces, the Wirral's suburbs, and large high-street and dockside commercial areas.
Typical places for this kind of grille include:
- Dining rooms and kitchens
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- Ground-floor flats
- Period homes with timber French doors
Things to decide before you order
Door swing
Inward-opening doors need the grille set back far enough to clear the leaves.
Curtains and blinds
Stack positions are planned around curtain tracks and returns.
Rules that apply in England
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.
