How much should I budget for French door grilles in Nelson?
French door grilles in Nelson typically cost £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, supplied and fitted. Use the quote tool for a guide figure, then we survey and confirm a fixed price.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.

- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
- Set back to clear inward-opening doors
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house

Lancashire is known for stone and red-brick terraces in its mill towns, Victorian seaside resorts such as Blackpool, and historic Lancaster.
Where French door grilles are most often used:
- French doors to gardens
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- Ground-floor flats
- Period homes with timber French doors
What to think about first
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
Curtains and blinds
Stack positions are planned around curtain tracks and returns.
Consents and safety: England
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
