How much should I budget for French door grilles in Golborne?
Our guide range for French door grilles in Golborne is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.

- Set back to clear inward-opening doors
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Each side opens independently
- Matches white, black or wood-effect frames
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock

Inward-opening doors need the grille set back far enough to clear the leaves.
Consents and safety: England
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

French door grilles in Golborne: questions
Do you cover Newton-le-Willows as well as Golborne?
Yes. As well as Golborne, we can arrange surveys in nearby Newton-le-Willows, Ashton-in-Makerfield and Leigh, and elsewhere in Greater Manchester.
My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?
Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.
Will the grille match my doors?
We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.
Can French door grilles open one side only?
Yes. Each leaf runs independently, so you can open one side and leave the other closed.
