How much do French door grilles cost in Chadderton?
Budget £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors for French door grilles in Chadderton, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
What goes into a French door grille
- Low-profile floor track
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
- Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
- Each side opens independently

- Ground-floor flats
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- French doors to gardens
- Dining rooms and kitchens
Things to decide before you order
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
Curtains and blinds
Stack positions are planned around curtain tracks and returns.
Rules that apply in England
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings need listed building consent for works that affect their character, which can include internal grilles and their fixings. In conservation areas, councils look closely at anything fitted to the outside. We recommend speaking to the council's conservation officer before ordering.

Which areas near Chadderton do you cover?
We can arrange work in Chadderton and in nearby Oldham (1 mile), Royton (2 miles) and Middleton (2 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?
Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.
Will the grille match my doors?
We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.
Can French door grilles open one side only?
Yes. Each leaf runs independently, so you can open one side and leave the other closed.
