How much do French door grilles cost in Chelmsford?
Our guide range for French door grilles in Chelmsford is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
What you can specify
- Each side opens independently
- Matches white, black or wood-effect frames
- Set back to clear inward-opening doors
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
Fitting in Chelmsford and nearby
We arrange surveys and fitting in Chelmsford and across the CM1 postcode district, as well as in nearby Billericay (8 miles) and Witham (9 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
Essex ranges from Victorian terraces in Southend and Colchester to new towns such as Harlow and Basildon and large commuter estates near London.
Typical places for this kind of grille include:
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- Dining rooms and kitchens
- Period homes with timber French doors
- French doors to gardens
Things to decide before you order
Curtains and blinds
Stack positions are planned around curtain tracks and returns.
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
Rules that apply in England
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
