How much should I budget for French door grilles in Newtownards?
Our guide range for French door grilles in Newtownards is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
Choices you can make
- Low-profile floor track
- Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Each side opens independently
- Pair of leaves meeting at a central lock

Consents and safety: Northern Ireland
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Northern Ireland, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
Bedroom and escape windows
Fire safety in new building work in Northern Ireland is covered by the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 and Technical Booklet E. Where a room relies on a window for escape, nothing fitted over it should stop it being used. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

French door grilles in Newtownards: questions
Can you survey in Newtownards and nearby towns?
Yes. Surveys in Newtownards, Comber, Bangor and elsewhere in County Down are booked around installer availability.
Can French door grilles open one side only?
Yes. Each leaf runs independently, so you can open one side and leave the other closed.
Do French door grilles need a floor track?
Usually a low-profile one, which keeps the grille rigid and is easy to step over.
My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?
Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.
