How much do French door grilles cost in Winsford?
Our guide range for French door grilles in Winsford is £954 to £2,034 including VAT (£795 to £1,695 plus VAT) per pair of doors, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
French door grilles are usually a pair of retractable grilles that fold to each side of the doors and meet in the centre, where they lock together. They protect the glazing and the meeting stiles, which are the weak point of many French doors.
Choices you can make
- Optional shoot bolts top and bottom
- Locks keyed alike with other grilles in the house
- Small stacks at each side of the doors
- Each side opens independently
- Low-profile floor track
- Set back to clear inward-opening doors
Fitting in Winsford and nearby
We can arrange French door grilles anywhere in Winsford, and in nearby Northwich, Crewe and Congleton. Tell us your postcode and we will offer dates.
Cheshire has half-timbered and listed buildings in central Chester, Victorian terraces in Crewe and Warrington, and large modern estates across the county.
Typical places for this kind of grille include:
- French doors to gardens
- Period homes with timber French doors
- Juliet balconies on upper floors (with escape in mind)
- Ground-floor flats
Things to decide before you order
One side or both
A centre-meeting pair lets you open one side for everyday use.
Upper floors
A grille behind Juliet balcony doors needs to keep any required escape route usable.
Rules that apply in England
Bedroom and escape windows
Approved Document B (fire safety) expects many habitable rooms in houses, especially first-floor rooms, to have an emergency escape window with an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², at least 450 mm high and 450 mm wide, with the bottom of the opening no more than 1,100 mm above the floor. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a release that opens from inside without a key.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

French door grilles in Winsford: questions
Do you cover Northwich as well as Winsford?
Yes. As well as Winsford, we can arrange surveys in nearby Northwich, Crewe and Congleton, and elsewhere in Cheshire.
Will the grille match my doors?
We powder-coat grilles in white, black, anthracite or a RAL colour close to your frames.
Can French door grilles open one side only?
Yes. Each leaf runs independently, so you can open one side and leave the other closed.
My French doors open inwards. Can I still have a grille?
Yes. The grille is set back from the doors so they can swing open, or fitted outside if there is no room inside.
