Fixed window grilles and bars in Brecon

How much do fixed window grilles and bars cost in Brecon?

Budget £234 to £714 including VAT (£195 to £595 plus VAT) per window for fixed window grilles and bars in Brecon, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.

A fixed window grille is a welded steel frame of bars bolted permanently over or inside a window. It has no moving parts and no lock to pick, which makes it the simplest and most economical grille for openings that are never used for access or escape.

Fitting in Brecon and nearby

Whether you are in central Brecon or at the edge of the LD3 district, we can arrange a survey. Nearby Merthyr Tydfil and Ebbw Vale are covered too.

Powys is the most rural part of Wales, with stone-built market towns such as Brecon, Newtown and Llandrindod Wells and many remote properties.

Typical places for this kind of grille include:

Toilet and utility windows
Basement and cellar windows
Commercial back elevations
Rear storerooms and plant rooms

Things to decide before you order

Never needed for escape

A fixed grille should only go on a window that is not needed as an escape route. Bedrooms and upstairs habitable rooms usually need an openable alternative.

Appearance

On front elevations or period buildings a decorative or slimmer bar pattern may sit better than a plain grid.

Rules that apply in Wales

Wales

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Listed buildings in Wales need listed building consent for works affecting their character, decided by the local planning authority with Cadw's involvement where required. Conservation areas bring extra scrutiny of external changes. Check with the council before ordering.

Bedroom and escape windows

Wales has its own Approved Documents under the Building Regulations. Approved Document B for Wales sets out escape window provisions for dwellings broadly in line with England's, including minimum opening sizes. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

Fixed window grilles and bars in Brecon: questions

Do you cover Merthyr Tydfil as well as Brecon?

Yes. As well as Brecon, we can arrange surveys in nearby Merthyr Tydfil, Ebbw Vale and Aberdare, and elsewhere in Powys.

How are fixed grilles attached?

With anti-tamper bolts or resin anchors into solid masonry, or to a steel subframe where the wall is weak. Fixings are positioned so they cannot be reached from outside.

Will fixed bars rust?

Galvanised and powder-coated steel is designed for years of outdoor use. Chips in the coating should be touched up to keep the protection intact.

Can fixed bars go on a bedroom window?

Generally no. Bedroom and upstairs habitable room windows often need to work as escape windows, so they should have an openable grille with a keyless internal release.
