Escape window grilles in Chepstow

Escape window grilles (quick release) in Chepstow: what will it cost?

Budget £534 to £1,074 including VAT (£445 to £895 plus VAT) per window for quick-release escape window grilles in Chepstow, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.

An escape window grille is a retractable grille with a release on the inside that opens it without a key or tool. It secures a window against entry from outside while keeping the window usable as an emergency escape route from inside, which bedroom and upstairs windows often need to be.

What the rules say in Wales

Wales

Grilles in rented homes

Under the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016, landlords must keep dwellings fit for human habitation, which takes fire hazards into account. Grilles over windows a contract-holder may need for escape should open from inside without a key.

Bedroom and escape windows

Wales has its own Approved Documents under the Building Regulations. Approved Document B for Wales sets out escape window provisions for dwellings broadly in line with England's, including minimum opening sizes. We only fit grilles over escape windows with a keyless internal release.

Escape window grilles (quick release) in Chepstow: questions

Can you survey in Chepstow and nearby towns?

Yes. Surveys in Chepstow, Monmouth, Newport and elsewhere in Gwent are booked around installer availability.

How does a quick-release grille work?

A lever or push release on the inside of the lock box unlatches the grille so it can be slid open in one movement, with no key needed.

Can I have security grilles on bedroom windows?

Yes, as long as the grille opens from inside without a key or tool. That keeps the window usable as an escape route.

Can I lock a quick-release grille when I go away?

Some designs allow a key lock to be used as well, for when the house is empty. The release must always be usable when anyone is sleeping there.
