Door security gates in Birkenhead

How much do door security gates cost in Birkenhead?

Budget £714 to £1,554 including VAT (£595 to £1,295 plus VAT) per door for door security gates in Birkenhead, supplied and fitted. Size, number of leaves, colour and access all move the price, which is fixed in writing after the survey.

A door security gate is a steel grille fitted across a doorway, either as a retractable concertina gate or a hinged gate on its own frame. Locked, it holds the opening even if the door itself is forced or its glass is broken.

Fitting in Birkenhead and nearby

Whether you are in central Birkenhead or at the edge of the CH41 district, we can arrange a survey. Nearby Liverpool and Wallasey are covered too.

Merseyside has Liverpool's Georgian quarter and Victorian terraces, the Wirral's suburbs, and large high-street and dockside commercial areas.

Typical places for this kind of grille include:

Office side entrances
Glazed kitchen and utility doors
Back and side doors of houses
Flat entrance doors onto communal areas

Things to decide before you order

Floor track

A full track gives the most rigid gate. If the doorway is a busy route or has level access, ask for a low-profile or recessed track.

Fire exits

On business premises a gate across an exit must not obstruct escape while anyone is inside. We discuss how it will be managed before recommending one.

Rules that apply in England

England

Grilles inside the glass

A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission, because it does not materially change how the building looks from outside. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Grilles in rented homes

Landlords in England must keep rented homes free from serious hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, which includes fire. A grille that stops a tenant using an escape window can create a hazard, so grilles in rented homes should have keyless internal releases.

Door security gates in Birkenhead: questions

Can you survey in Birkenhead and nearby towns?

Yes. Surveys in Birkenhead, Liverpool, Wallasey and elsewhere in Merseyside are booked around installer availability.

Can a security gate go behind a fire exit door?

Only if it does not obstruct escape while the building is occupied. That normally means it is unlocked and parked open during opening hours and locked only when the premises are empty.

Is a security gate better inside or outside the door?

Inside is usual for back doors because the gate is protected and the door still seals against the weather. Outside works for recessed doorways or where the door opens inwards and would hit the gate.

Will a gate stop the door from opening?

No. The gate is measured so the door can open and close normally with the gate folded back or swung open.
