How much should I budget for counter and hatch grilles in Abergavenny?
Our guide range for counter and hatch grilles in Abergavenny is £595 to £1,795 plus VAT (£714 to £2,154 inc VAT) per hatch, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
A counter or hatch grille is a small roller or retractable grille that closes off a serving hatch, kiosk window, bar or reception counter. It secures the opening between the public side and the stock or till behind, while staying compact enough for tight spaces.
What goes into a hatch grille
- Fixing to counters, bulkheads or subframes
- Bottom-rail or side locks
- Stainless or aluminium to suit food areas
- Compact coil boxes for low heads
- Brushed, anodised or powder-coated finishes
- Retractable options where there is side space

What to think about first
Daily use
Choose a light action if staff open and close it several times a day.
Fire separation
If the hatch is in a fire-resisting wall, a standard grille does not replace a fire shutter.
Consents and safety: Wales
Grilles across exits in business premises
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies in Wales, including to the common parts of blocks of flats and HMOs. The responsible person must keep escape routes and exits available and easy to open while people are present, so a grille across an exit should be open whenever the premises are occupied.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Wales, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.

Can you fit it into an existing counter?
Yes, by fixing to the counter structure or a subframe built into it.
