Choices you can make
- Neat integration with countertops
- Brushed, anodised or powder-coated finishes
- Compact coil boxes for low heads
- Bottom-rail or side locks
- Manual operation for small openings

Getting the right hatch grille for your building
Fire separation
If the hatch is in a fire-resisting wall, a standard grille does not replace a fire shutter.
Coil box or side stack
Roller grilles need a little head space; retractables need side space.
What the rules say in Northern Ireland
Grilles across exits in business premises
The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 make the appropriate person keep escape routes and exits available and easy to open while people are present. A grille across an exit should be open whenever the premises are occupied.
Grilles inside the glass
A grille fitted inside the glass does not normally need planning permission in Northern Ireland, as it does not materially change the outside of the building. If the building is listed, listed building consent may still be needed.
